Makaha Area Information and Links
Makaha is located on the leeward coast of Oahu.It is about an hour drive from Honolulu.
Makaha Beach is a beautiful beach for swimming, surfing and snorkeling. It is the home of various surf competitions, including Buffalo's
Big Board Surfing Classic. There are usually lifeguards on duty, but a word of caution... if there are warning flags posted on the beach,
be careful to heed them!
If in doubt, ask a lifeguard about the conditions.
Makaha Valley lies inland of Makaha Beach. It provides a great outing for those who enjoy walking
and hiking (although you can also drive there). Within the valley one can find wild peacock and boar,
golfing, and the site of an ancient hawaiian heiau (sacred ground).
